"We did not deserve to lose by such a margin"

Paulo Sousa spoke to the gathered media following Thursday evening's group stage match in Belgium

We were very much in the match with Genk  for 70 minutes, and we created chances. There were efforts, which we just missed, and then we conceded a goal after one of the those. The home side did not really have too many chances. We put Genk under a lot of pressure at the start of the second half. There was a 20-25 minute period when we were playing seriously above them, and we were close to getting the equaliser. The players then followed their hearts from the second part of the second period, leading to us playing with a little less discipline. The fact that we really wanted to win towards the end, led to us not concentrating as much as we should have. We made mistakes, but we also showed that we can compete at this stage. I am disappointed because of the result, as we did not deserve to lose by such a margin, but we still learned a lot from today's game. The most important thing now is for the players to regenerate quickly, and we must put emphasis on the mental regeneration, besides the physical, in order for us to get a result in Sunday's league match.

I said before the game, that it would be good to win the first Europa League match, and I am pleased that we did this. We could not break through Videoton's defence at the start, but we played with patience, and it brought it's reward in the end. The second goal came at a very good time, and the third was the icing on the cake. We dominated throughout, and it was not too difficult to get the result after our first goal. We tried to hit high balls at the beginning, but we realised, that we could not get as much this way, and that we were better by playing it on the pitch. We missed several chances, so I can say that I would have been disappointed to have only won just 1-0, based on the match.
