We will be the guests of the team from the capital, who lost 4-2 against Paks in the previous round, on Saturday at noon.
Positive balance
On Saturday at 12 noon we will meet MTK for the 110th time in the top division. Of the 109 NB I league matches played so far, we have won 47, drawn 22 and 40 have been won by the team from the capital. The goal difference is 171-131 in our favour. The last time we won 1-0 against the blue and whites at the end of August, with Gradisar scoring the only goal at the Sóstói Stadium.
Two points in last five league games
In the 2022/2023 season, MTK Budapest played in the NB II and finished second behind DVTK, so they managed to get back to the top division immediately after the relegation year. Dávid Horváth's side finished 8th in the league last season. The new season started well for our opponents on Saturday, but MTK have only 2 points in the last five rounds, drawing at home to ZTE (1-1) and ETO (2-2).
The legend of the two clubs
Vidi's legendary head coach - Ferenc Kovács - the manager of our 1985 UEFA Cup finalists, and our club's honorary president, made his debut in the top flight as a home-grown player for MTK in 1954. In 1964, he played in the UEFA Cup final with MTK against Sporting Lisbon, Ferenc Kovács started the first match in Brussels, which ended 3-3, and then in the replay in Antwerp, which was a 1-0 Portuguese victory. To date, he is the only Hungarian to have played in a European cup final with a Hungarian team, both as a footballer and as a head coach.
