Kovacs gave Vidi the lead in time added on in the first half. However, Vasas managed to turn the match around in the second half.
Videoton visited the home of first division newcomers Vasas in the the 5th weekend of the OTP Bank league. The two had last met back in September 2011 in a game in Budapest. That match ended without any goals being scored. Only Oliveira was part of that Videoton side from four years ago to play in today's game. There were several players that were promoted from the Vidi II side due to injuries and suspensions.
It was Videoton who began the match on the front foot with a Patkai cross on 3 minutes resulting in a Kovacs header over the bar. Vasas player Lazok then tried his luck from 25 meters out with a free kick. Heffler saw his free kick hit the wall after 18 minutes, before Trebotic sent in a curling ball towards goal, which ended with Feczesin sliding in at the far post, but the forward was unable to make contact.
Remili then had a powerful shot at goal from 14 meters a couple of minutes later, which went just over the bar. A promising move involving Oliveira produced a shot that went wide of the target from 15 meters. Referee Solymosi added on 3 minutes of injury time at the end of the first half. That proved enough time for the opening goal to come via Kovacs. The ball rebounded in front of Kovacs, who controlled the ball before slipping, but he was still able to guide the ball in to the back of the net while on the floor (0-1).
There was no change at the break from either manager, but the home team started the second half better. So much so that they found a quick equalizer after 48 minutes. A corner by the Budapest side found its way to Vida, who grounded keeper Danilovics, before squaring the ball to Novak, who was well placed to find the back of the net (1-1). Vidi could have gone ahead for the second time in the match when Kovacs fed Oliveira with the ball, a high ball to the far side for the arriving Ivanovski finished with the ball going wide of the target.
Kovacs then ran alone at goal with the ball, which saw Nagy race out of his goal and challenge Kovacs, who fell over the keeper. The referee did not blow his whistle and Vidi were denied the chance to go back in front. Bernard Casoni reacted with anger from the touchline and referee Solymosi sent the Frenchman from the dugout. A header on 63 minutes from Gruz was followed in the 71st minute by a shot from Berecz that required a great stop from Danilovics.
Kovacs found Gyurcso on the right after 74 minutes, who controlled the ball and shot with his left foot, but Nagy was well placed to deal with it. Vasas then pushed forward a couple of minutes later when Remili received a good ball from Berecz, with Fejes sliding in to try and clear the ball, but he could not reach the ball and the Vasas forward aimed for the right corner to make it 2-1. A Gyurcso corner five minutes from time was met by the head of Luijckx, but again Nagy in the Vasas goal was on hand to deal with the danger. There was no further change to the scoreline with Vasas emerging 2-1 winners.
Vidi are next in action in the Europa League with a visit to Poland and Lech Poznan in the first leg play off.
