Vasko arrives as Sitku departs

Videoton bring in Vasko from Ujpest while striker Sitku makes the move in the opposite direction

Videoton have signed defender Tamas Vasko form Ujpest on a three year contract. Vasko, who came through the Ujpest youth system, signed the contract in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday. The defender was born on the 20th February 1984, and made his first division debut in the 2003/2004 season. He went on to make two appearances for the violets in his first season, becoming a member of the runners up side.

He spent the following season on loan at Tatabanya, before returning to Ujpest in 2005/2006. The 193cm defender then went on to establish himself in their side, and even became the club captain. It was at this time that he received interest from foreign clubs. He began the next season with Ujpest, but moved to Bristol CIty, after the first game of the season on a loan deal. He stayed with City for a season, before moving onto Italian side Avellino. He was back in Ujpest colours and made his international debut in the game with Latvia on the 7th February 2007. He has represented Hungary 12 times.

The defender said to vidi.hu that he was delighted when he heard that Videoton were after him, and he quickly said yes to the offer. He also felt that it was time for a new club. "I picked up a runners up medal twice while with Ujpest. It is time to make a step forward and win a championship medal. Moving to Videoton will give me every chance of doing this as the facilities are perfect for the team to prepare in. There are also serious ambitions to win the Hungarian Cup as well as the league. I would like to prove myself on the European stage." said the defender following his signing. "We needed to strengthen the defensive area as it looks likely that there will be a defender moving from the club." said manager Gyorgy Mezey.

Today's signing of Vasko also means that striker Illes Sitku will be moving in the opposite direction on a one- year loan deal. The popular forward will train with Ujpest tomorrow, while Vasko will begin training with Vidi from Thursday, following a throat infection.
