PRE-SEASON

"The most intense period of preparation comes in the training camp"

We talked to the fitness coach of our NB I team, Hunor Ambrus, about the importance of fitness training during preparation.

On 14 December, the 2024 league year ended for us at home to MTK, after which the team went on their winter break. What tasks did you give the players for the short winter period?

For the winter break we put together a programme for the players that included both running and fitness sessions. Everyone was given an individual programme according to their condition, and they did it honestly. It was good to keep their fitness levels up during the holidays, and of course many of them also did extra work.

Preparations for the spring season started on 2 January, and next week the team will travel to a training camp in Croatia. How were the first days of the New Year?

The first two days started with various examinations and tests, and then we got down to business, training hard. Of course, we also have to make sure that the workload is gradual. This week is a kind of preparation for the training camp, which will also be the most intensive period of preparation in terms of strength training.

How do you envisage this phase of the training, how will the work be divided among the coaching staff?

Tamás Pető is the boss, and he has told us what work he wants to do during the preparation, when he will hold the training sessions. We will work within that and we can include dry running or specific conditioning in the programme. The head coach will set the direction and he will designate when we have more leeway, but the staff will discuss the program together. Tomi has a very good handle on this. In addition to the three training matches, we will have two training sessions a day in Croatia. We will usually have a bigger role in the morning, then after a small sided game there will be sprints, leg conditioning and strength training sessions, broken down to each player's profile. In the afternoon, the focus will be more on tactics.

You joined the first team in the summer of 2024. Did you get out of those six months what you expected?

I'm having a great time, I've got a lot and I've learned a lot in six months. It means a lot to have a great teamwork, everyone is helpful and supportive. I like that there is a system where everyone knows exactly what their job is and within that we can all contribute.
