We take a look at the teams we will be facing in next season's second division league championship.
In the 2024/2025 season, Kisvárda Master Good and Kolorcity Kazincbarcika SC were promoted to the Fizz League NB I, while Gyirmót FC Győr and OPUS TIGÁZ Tatabánya were relegated from the second division.
Along with us, Kecskeméti TE was also relegated from the top flight, while Tiszakécskei LC and Karcagi SE were promoted from NB III to the Merkantil Bank Liga NB II, forming the 16-team league for next season..
Vasas FC
The Angyalföld-based team was relegated from NB I in 2023 and has been trying to return to the top division ever since, but finished third last season as well as the season before. The red and blues from the capital have the same goal for the coming season: to return to NB I.
HR-RENT Kozármisleny
One of the surprise teams of last season was Kozármisleny, which finished fourth in the league. As the team has regularly finished in the top half in recent years, it would be no surprise if they were to finish in the top third of the league again this season.
Szentlőrinc
Szentlőrinc also performed well and finished fifth, with former Vidi player Róbert Waltner confirmed as head coach for next season.
Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC
A stable first division side just a few years ago, Mezőkövesd experienced a slight dip in form last season. Head coach Zsolt Tamási was replaced by Aurél Csertői, and the team performed better after that, eventually finishing the championship in sixth place.
Szeged-Csanád Grosics Academy
The Szeged team has been aiming to reach NB I for years, with little success so far. The team finished the season in seventh place.
Budapest Honvéd FC
Like Vasas, the fourteen-time Hungarian champions bid farewell to the top flight in 2023 and have since finished ninth and eighth in the second division.
BVSC-Zugló
The Budapest city team, which has also seen better days, finished ninth in NB II last season. The squad includes several experienced players who have played in NB I, such as former Fehérvár fan favourite Paulo Vinícius.
AQVITAL FC Csákvár
The team from Fejér County, which has long been a partner club of Puskás Akadémia FC in the second division, finished tenth in NB II last season. Csákvár also provided the top scorer, Kornél Nagy Zoárd, who has since been signed by the Felcsút team, where he will be scoring goals in NB I next season.
Soroksár SC
The FTC cooperation team finished eleventh in NB II. Péter Lipcsei has been head coach at Soroksár for many years, where the ratio of young and experienced players is good, but the main focus is on giving young Ferencváros players competition. A good example of this is Alex Tóth, who played for Soroksár in the autumn, then made his breakthrough at Ferencváros, and later caught the attention of Marco Rossi. The young footballer has since been called up to the national team and was named NB I discovery of the year in 2025.
Budafoki MTE
The Budafok team, which was still playing in NB I a few years ago, finished twelfth in the league last season. Last season, the squad included several experienced players, such as former Vidi player Bence Elek (brother of Ákos Elek) and Márton Lorentz, who also played for Vidi.
FC Ajka
Last season, Vidi's partner team, FC Ajka, fought to stay up in the final round. Last year's squad included several former Vidi players, including Viktor Sejben and Zsolt Tar.
Békéscsaba 1912 Előre
The team from the east region was in the relegation zone for a long time, but in the end they managed to fight their way to survival in NB II, finishing in fourteenth place. Last season, the team's head coach was Sándor Csató, who had previously played for and coached Vidi.
Karcagi SE
The Karcagi team is one of the teams promoted from NB III. In the play-offs, they drew 2-2 against Nagykanizsa both away and at home, but managed to secure promotion with a penalty shoot-out victory.
Tiszakécskei LC
It seemed that Tiszakécske would easily overcome the hurdle of the qualifiers, as they won the first match 3-0 in Mosonmagyaróvár. However, in the return leg, Tiszakécske quickly fell two goals behind, but Mosonmagyaróvár was ultimately unable to score a third goal.
Kecskeméti TE
The other team to bid farewell to NB I was Kecskeméti TE. According to reports, Zoltán Gera will remain head coach next season, and Kecskemét has already set its goal: immediate promotion back to NB I.
