We came back from three goals down to win on Saturday at the MOL Arena Sósto!
In the 26th round of the OTP Bank Liga our team hosted Kisvárda at the MOL Arena Sóstó on Saturday afternoon. Against the third-placed Red-Whites, Michael Boris chose the team of Kovács D. - Bese, Rus, Stopira - Nego, Fiola, Zulj, Hangya - Funsho - Kodro, Nikolic.
Unfortunately, the start of the game did not go according to plan, with Kisvárda scoring three goals in 12 minutes. First in the eighth minute Bumba scored from 13 metres (0-1), then two minutes later Navratil went on a one-on-one with Kovács, and rolled the ball into the net between the legs of our goalkeeper (0-2). The cold spell continued in the 14th minute, when Camaj scored a lovely curling goal from distance (0-3).
But our team did not give up, in fact! In the 15th minute, Nego's centre was converted by Nikolic (1-3) (it was our striker's 114th goal in a Vidi shirt), and three minutes later Nego was again one of the main protagonists - this time the Hungarian international put Funsho in a great position (2-3)! In the 25th minute, Funsho scored again, but the assistant saw a foul in the move and his decision was confirmed by VAR. Nikolic' low shot was saved by Dombó Dávid. It really was a crazy 25 minutes for the teams at the start of the match. The teams calmed down a bit, Zulj got a yellow card, Leoni got a yellow card and Bese threatened with a header from a corner, but Dombó didn't have to save.
Neither head coach made a substitution at the break, and the first big chance of the half went to Nikolic, whose close range shot only bounced wide of the goal as Kravchenko managed to block it. In the 59th minute, however, Peter Zulj's shot could not be saved by either the defenders or Dombó, and we equalised (3-3)! Our Austrian midfielder fired a shot into the bottom left corner after a cross from Bese. And in the 80th minute we took the lead! Another great cross from Nego was met by Kodro, and the Bosnian striker scored our fourth goal (4-3)! Three minutes later, Kravchenko tripped Petryak inside the penalty area, and the Varda full-back received a red card along with his second yellow card. Meanwhile, Kisvárda made two substitutions, and the penalty was taken in the 85th minute. Nikolic stood behind the ball, and our captain confidently scored the penalty (5-3)!
It was Niko's 115th league goal for Vidi, and it was also the first time in the club's NB I history that they came back from three goals down at home! Shabanov came on for Kodro in the second half. In the 87th minute, Dániel Kovács needed to pull off a smart save as well, as our goalkeeper pushed Asani's shot out of the corner. In injury time, Nemanja Nikolic left the pitch to the applause of the fans, István Kovács replaced him. After that, the result remained the same, our team responded fantastically to the fact that they had quickly fallen behind and confidently kept the three points at home!
