A single goal in the first half was enough to split the two sides.
The match in Szombathely kicked off in lovely sunshine on Saturday afternoon. Week 13 of the OTP league season saw Vidi make the visit to play Haladas. It was the first of two back-to-back matches for the two sides who will meet again in the week in the Hungarian Cup.
There were no real chances inside the first 15 minutes of the match with the game being fairly balanced. However, there could be no complaints about the level of battles on the pitch. The 16th minute resulted in Wils Thomas aiming at goal from 19 meters, but the ball ended up going over. Oliveira then tried his luck with a shot on goal but the ball took a deflection of a defender and out for a corner. A Haladas free kick was then punched away by keeper Danilovics from under his bar and out for a corner. Oliveira found the back of the net on 24 minutes, but the assistant referee flagged the effort offside.
A thrown in from the home side ended with Gosztonyi flicking his header on to the path of Gaal, who hit the back of the net from a tight angle from 8 meters out (1-0). Vidi almost levelled from the resulting kick off as Suljic produced a smart save from keeper Kiraly in the Haladas goal. Gosztonyi was again well placed on the half hour mark following a good move from the home side. The winger was left unmarked but the ball went just over the bar. Vidi went forward and Kovacs found Oliveira with a good ball. However, the latter saw his shot go over the bar from 16 meters out. Haladas had the final chance of the first half when Gosztonyi was again in with a chance on goal following a throw in. He aimed for the far corner, but Danilovics saved well to deny him.
The second half started with a chance for the home side. Gaal raced into the box in the 53rd minute and shot from a tight angle, which brought a save out of Danilovics. Vidi came closest to levelling after 62 minutes. The red and blues were awarded a penalty by referee Kassai after a cross from Oliveira was handled by Jagodics inside the box.
Feczesin took the resulting spot kick but Gabor Kiraly dived to deny him and Haladas remained in the lead. That save seemed to galvanize the home side and the final 20 minutes saw them create more chances. It needed a series of saves from Danilovics to keep Haladas out. Gosztonyi volleyed at goal on 69 minutes, while a powerful shot from Gaal was tipped around the post by the visiting keeper. Haladas had the majority of possession as the minutes ticked by. The home side saw out the match until the final whistle to record a 1-0 win over Videoton.
The two sides do not have long to wait to face each other. Vidi will play Geza Meszoly's side on Wednesday in the first leg of the Hungarian cup at the Rohonci street stadium. Vidi are next in OTP league action with a home match against DVTK next Saturday.
