Match Report: No points at the home of Honved

Videoton left the Bozsik stadium without any points on Saturday evening.

Vidi returned to OTP league action on Saturday evening at the home of Budapest Honved. Week 28 of the season saw Videoton back at the venue, which kicked off the 2015-2016 season with a single goal defeat back in the summer. Vidi recorded a 3-0 win at the Sostoi stadium during the autumn against the red and blacks.

It was Honved that started the better of the two sides in what was their third meeting of the campaign. Youla sent a cross in to the middle, which ended up with Vasziljevics having a chance on 4 minutes, which brought a good save out of keeper Kovacsik. Another cross in from the wing moments later produced another chance for the home side, but Botka shot wide from 8 meters out. Vasziljevics did similar after 13 minutes with his 17 meters effort that went the wrong side of the post.

Oliveira was on the end of a quick counter attack on the quarter hour mark. He clipped the ball over the keeper from a tight angle, but he managed to gather the ball. The Portugal midfielder was involved a minute later after releasing Haraszti with a lovely ball. He took the ball beyond the keeper, who had run out of his goal, and all he needed to do was roll the ball into the back of the empty net, but a Honved defender slid in with a challenge to deny the visitors. Kovacs then had a chance as he shot at goal, but it came off a defender and away for a corner kick.

Haraszti took the corner that found its way to the far post where Feczesin headed it back in for Juhasz to shoot at goal, but keeper Horvath managed to save his chance and it went out for a corner. The 25th minute saw Kovacs play a lovely ball in for Suljics, who was completely free and ran at the home goal, but his curling shot from 12 meters came back off the left post and rebounded in to the path of Feczesin, who blasted his shot over from 17 meters. There were two moments that produced good saves from the two goalkeeper's after 27 minutes. The first was from a Juhasz header, which the home keeper dealt well with. Kovacsik denied Hidi at the other end from scoring for the home team.

Vidi then fell behind to a goal, which was very unlucky on 30 minutes. Hidi sent a long ball in from the half way line. The keeper came out but was under pressure from several Honved players, and he could not gather the ball, which Eppel eventually slid in to the back of the empty net (1-0). Honved did not have too long to celebrate as a ball in from Kovacs found Feczesin, who from 17 meters out found the near corner to level at 1-1.

The second half started with the home side on the front foot. Eppel had possession on 50 minutes around the edge of the box, which ended up at the feet of Nagy, who sent a powerful shot at goal that brought a good save out of Kovacsik. This period of the match did not really have too many chances of note to mention. There were plenty of battles on the pitch as both sides tried to gain the upperhand. Kovacs got hold of the ball on 65 minutes, before finding Suljic, who’s shot from 16 meters did not cause problems for the home keeper. Eppel did get the ball in to the net after 74 minutes, but his effort was flagged offside. The action continued with Geresi finding himself with a chance, which resulted in Horvath denying him with a fine save.

The match went into the final 10 minutes with perhaps many inside the stadium thinking it would end up a draw. Referee Vad showed Patkai his second yellow, which meant that Vidi were reduced to 10 men. It was the home side who took advantage as Eppel went down the left, before lifting the ball over Kovacsik, despite the attempt of Fejes, and Vermes was well placed to roll the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Vidi are next in action on Tuesday evening with a home match against Debrecen at the Pancho Arena.
