Goals from Novothny and Obinna gave the Budapest side the three points on Saturday evening.
MOL Vidi FC played their 17th league game of the season at the home of Ujpest FC on Saturday. The two met recently on the 21st November in what was the opening game at the MOL Arena Sosto. That game ended in a 1-0 win to Marko Nikolic' side. The home team had Mijusko Bojovic missing and his place and the captain's armband went to Robert Litauszki. Dzenan Burekovic also had to miss the game as he picked up an injury in the warn up and he was replaced by Benjamin Balazs. Vidi had a full squad to choose from with no injuries or suspensions to consider.
The first chance arrived after 10 minutes when Milanov shot wide from a tight angle. It was the home side that then had the chances to be dangerous in front of the visiting goal. Zsoter tried his luck but Kovacsik was equal to it on 21 minutes, while Balazs sent in a dangerous cross that Stopira flicked on ahead of the arriving Obinna.
Ujpest went ahead after 26 minutes: A cross came in from the right and Vidi defender Fiola chested the ball back towards Kovacsik, but Novothny was alert to it and he pounced unchallenged to stab the ball into the back of the net 1-0. The ball bounced in front of Novothny moments later following a cross, but the forward wanted to pass into the middle, but Vinicius was sharp and connected with the ball, and it was Beridze who ended up shooting well over the bar from 12 meters. The home side then doubled their lead after 33 minutes when Vinicius could only flick the ball on and Obinna managed to step in and place the ball beyond keeper Kovacsik to make it 2-0.
Zsoter blasted a free kick over after 39 minutes while Vidi almost scored on half time: a corner from Huszti found Juhasz alone and he headed at goal, but the ball hit the head of Litauszki, with both Patkai and Nego having attempts to put the ball in to the back of the net.
Ujpest went in at the break with a two goal lead. Marko Nikolic made his first change after 55 minutes: Nikolov and Hodzik replaced Patkai and Huszti. It was the home side that continued to move forward despite the changes. Zsoter found Beridze, who cut in and curled a ball beyond the left post from 15 meters.
A cross from Fiola was headed at goal by Hodzic in the minutes that followed but home keeper Pajovic collected the ball. Kovacs came on for Fiola after 66 minutes in another attacking change. However, Obinna was dangerous with his ball from Zsoter, who turned and shot, but Kovacsik was well positioned.
Obinna's powerful cross was parried by Kovacsik, and the ball rebounded about a meter from goal, which Litauszki attempted to scissor kick, but it went over. Beridze shot wide from a tight angle after 76 minutes. Stopira rose to head into the side netting following a free kick on 81 minutes. Nikolov curled a shot into the hands of Pajovic towards the end following a free kick. The Macedonian midfielder was even more dangerous shortly after, but again his shot was well saved by the keeper.
The defeat sees Vidi still on 31 points, but with Honved suffering a defeat earlier on, the lead over the third place side remains at 3 points.
