The experienced Portuguese defender has mutually broken his contract with the club.
Marco Caneira and Videoton FC have mutually broken up the contract. The defender leaves Szekesfehervar after a period of three and a half years with the club.
Caneira joined Vidi in the summer of 2011, going on to make 67 league appearances, and scoring one goal. He played in 12 Europa league matches during the 2012 run, missing only one match and even scoring a goal against FC Basel. He made a total of 120 appearances in all for the club.
"I am proud of the three and a half years that I have spent with Vidi. Back then when I arrived at the club at the request of Paulo Sous, I came here to help build a new project. To help Videoton FC as a club develop in order to enable them to compete in the European competition to make the club bigger and better. I tried to keep to this during the entire time that I was with the club. Now as I leave the club, I feel that I can proudly look back at my time with Vidi, as the club is bigger than it was three and a half years ago. I would like to you all and the club from the day that I signed. I would like to thank Paulo for inviting me here. I would also like to thank the owner, Istvan Garancsi, who gave me the chance to prove myself both on and off the pitch. I want to also thank the supporters who are the most important people for the club. The club will be here for a long time but it is the fans that will always support and they will come here every week. The rest of it is part of life. We have agreed to mutually break up the contract. I have told both Mr Garancsi and the board of management that I will be delighted to help the club in any way that I can in the future. They can count on my support at any time. I will return back here in June so that I can receive the medal, as we deserve this and I feel that Vidi is the best team with the best players in Hungary. I am sure that my team mates can continue the hard work that we have done until now and that we will be champions!” – said the departing, former Portuguese international player to vidi.hu.
We wish Marco every success in the future.
Videoton FC have also mutually broken up the contract with Milan Peric, who had spent the Autumn season on loan at Dunaujvaros PASE. We wish him the best in his career.
