ENGLAND – HUNGARY 2-1 (0-0)
Hungary suffered a 2-1 defeat at Wembley Stadium, on Wednesday evening. Sandor Egervari’s side took the lead, when the French ref decided that the ball had crossed the line. However, a Steven Gerrard double gave Fabio Capello’s England the win.

Sandor Egervari took charge of his first international at Wembley against England. He handed out a debut to Videoton defender Zoltan Liptak. The ball remained mainly in the Hungarian half in the first 20 minutes, with the visitors having small periods of possession. Gabor Kiraly and the defence held firm as they cleared any danger that came their way. Balazs Dzsudzsak, Zoltan Gera and Gergely Rudolf all had efforts on Joe Hart’s goal, but he was not seriously tested. There was a good turnout with a 72,000 crowd roaring on both sides. Hungary took the lead after 62 minutes, following a quick counter attack. The ball came in from the left from Vladimir Koman, and England defender Phil Jagielka touched the ball on the way to goal.

England stepped things up following the goal and were back level after 69 minutes. Steven Gerrard hit a 25-yard shot that went into the far corner of the net. England remained on the attack with Gerrard dribbling his way through the Hungarian defence to score his and England’s second. Hungary did have a chance to equalize near the end, when Gera was sent clear, but keeper Joe Hart blocked his shot. Hungarian keeper Gabor Kiraly produced a great safe in the final minute. The referee blew the final whistle with England winning the match 2-1. However, Hungary produced a brave performance against one of Europe’s strongest sides.
