Goals from Juhasz and Scepovic help Vidi pull away from Honved

Vidi put in a solid performance to pick up the three points against Honved on Sunday evening.

The games come thick and fast with the squad flying home from Belarus early Friday morning. Next up for Marko Nikolic' side was an OTP league game against third in the table Honved. The Budapest side arrived at the MOL Arena Sostoi with the same number of points but a place behind thanks to a worse goal difference.

Vidi made one change from the side that started in Belarus against BATE on Thursday evening: Paulo Vinicius missed the game after collecting 5 yellow cards and Boban Nikolov took his place. That meant that Loic Nego moved back to right back with Attila Fiola slotting into the heart of the defence alongside Roland Juhasz. The visiting manager Attila Supka did not field Deak, Batik and Uzoma while Poloskei and Kalnoki did not make the squad.

It was Honved who started more aggressively and they had a chance after 1 minute: Holender and Kamber had shots, while Danilo's shot a moment later was blocked by Juhasz. Vidi opened up Honved after 8 minutes with Hadzic sending his effort over following a corner. The Kispest side then had 4 corners in the space of 2 minutes on the quarter hour mark, but the home defence managed to clear the danger on each occasion. It was Vidi that had the breakthrough after 18 minutes and that came from their second corner. Huszti went over to the far side and curled in lovely corner for Juhasz to rise and head into the corner of the net, which was his second goal in the new arena (1-0).

Honved tried to come back and N'Gog crossed the ball in towards Gazdag, but he just failed to connect with it and keeper Kovacsik collected the ball. There was a short gap before the next chance arrive on 28 minutes. Nikolov found Nego with a good pass and he moved forward with great pace before crossing the ball into the middle. Patkai arrived but could not hit the target. The midfielder was again active after 34 minutes when he pounced on a rebound, but Danilo slid in and collected a yellow. Vidi had a free kick 20 meters from goal, which Milanov took and hit the wall with.

Honved picked up another booking after 39 minutes when Barath went into the book. Huszti hit his 25 meters free kick into the wall and it rebounded wide. Vidi could have made it two after 41 minutes when Hadzic first lost possession but picked himself up to get hold of the ball and find Milanov with a lovely pass. The Bulgarian forward found himself with a great chance, but Barath caught up with him and keeper Grof was able to collect the ball.

The two minutes of injury time did not bring any further action and Vidi went in at the break leading 1-0. Honved's top scorer Danilo did not come out for the second half and he was replaced by Kukoc. Holender moved forward to partner N'Gog in attack.

There was nothing of note for a while at the start of the second half with the ball mainly being played in the middle of the pitch. That was until the 65th minute when Vidi scored their second goal. Skvorc lost the ball in the middle and the ball fell to Nego who sent in a sharp ball for Scepovic to connect with and make it 2-0.

Vidi made their first change after 67 minutes when Istvan Kovacs came on for Milanov. Former Vidi forward Tischler then replaced N'Gog and he sent a header from distance at Kovacsik after 71 minutes. The action continued on a cold evening in front of just under 5,000. Bano-Szabo came on for Gazdag after 74 minutes before captain Roland Juhasz came off to a round of applause and Tamas replaced him. A Kukoc corner was headed at goal by Barath from close range, but Kovacsik was well positioned to deal with it. Tamas then went down the left wing with pace and power and his good ball into the middle was just short of Huszti.

The final change happened after 86 minutes when Scepovic walked off and Armin Hodzic came on. There was time for a free kick from Holender towards the end but it was well saved by Kovacsik. There were no further goals and Vidi celebrated a 2-0 home win as the final whistle blew. The win confirms Vidi's second place in the league table as they close the gap with leaders Ferencvaros. There will be two games next week with a Hungarian Cup match at Budafok on Wednesday and a visit to Ujpest in the NB I on Saturday.
