A healthy crowd of over 2,000 turned out at the Sostoi stadium on Friday evening to see their first look at the new Videoton team. It was also Paulo Sousa's first match in charge at the home of Videoton, and his team did not disappoint. Vid fielded all of their three Spanish summer signings, with Alvaro playing at right back, and Hector Sanchez on the other side of defence at left back. Just in front of Hector was another Spaniard, Walter, on the left hand side of midfield. An injury to Polonkai also meant that the last of the current signings, Nicola Mitrovics, also made his debut in the red and blue shirt.

0-1. Paulo Sousa showed plenty of encouragement from the touchline but his Videoton side could not convert the important final ball. However, Vidi did manage to equalise right on half time. Mitrovics sent over a lovely ball, which beat the visiting defence, and fell nicely to Alves, who turned and played the ball to the waiting Nikolics who made no mistake from close range 1-1

There was only one side in the match after the half time as Videoton continued to press forward. Sousa made several substitutions during the second period. A challenge from the keeper on Alves resulted in the referee pointing straight to the penalty spot on the hour mark. Alves picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way. 2-1. Defender Gabor Horvath made the game safe ten minutes later to give Paulo Sousa a winning start in front of a happy home crowd.
