"I support Eger but I am expecting a Videoton win at the weekend"

The club's Honorary President spoke to vidi.hu about this weekend's league match

Videoton Honorary President, Ferenc Kovacs: - When I arrived at Eger in 1970, I took over a side in the then second division. Things were not made anymore simple, by the fact that they had just switched to an autumn-spring system. Eger were a place off the bottom in our group, and the gap with the teams above was big. However, we then went on to win game after game in the spring, finally making it into the top half. Fate then meant that we picked up our first win of 1971-72, on our own pitch, when we beat Videoton 2-0 in the 6th game of the season. It is interesting that in Eger, and later on in Videoton, I had a player called Karoly Czeczeli. He was a very good left footed player, with a fantastic shooting ability, and he was a big strength for Vidi. Back to the weekend match, I am sad that we cannot play in Eger, after a gap of 25 years, as it is such a lovely town, and it was always a great feeling to play there. It is a real sporting town, and it is enough to just think about the swimmers or even the water polo side. I have watched the Eger matches on TV, and I have to say that they are cultured, and play good football. I feel that Sunday's game will be a difficult one against them. We will have to win by all account and erase the Honved defeat. I believe that it is a big disadvantage for a newly promoted side to not be able to play on their own pitch, in front of their home support. I will be really looking out for Eger, so that they keep their place in the league at the end of the season, but I will be expecting a Videoton win at the weekend!
